Wassup-in-design

I'm just back from ultra-rocking trip in Goa, Lohagad, Mahabaleshwar & Puna. Will post the glimpse of it soon.

Btw, to keep you engaged with wassup-in-design I found quite a few interesting links:
  1. 'Designing with colour is perhaps the element of graphic design which is the most difficult to get right. Why?' Keep reading: Five Simple Steps to designing with colour.
  2. 'It's important to emphasize usability in form design because forms are for collecting information, and the right approach for usability may not always be the same as that for data integrity.' Catch this interesting read from Sarah Horton.
  3. Being affected with yahoo UI lib bug oflate, the happening yahoo scripting snippets looks promising in terms of RIA kind of user expereince without flash but only with yahoo-UI. Check this link to short overview of how each utility was used in a large scale production environment of yahoo merchandise aka shopping site.

18 till I dejavu :)

"Class of 2005 - Reunion", read the banner,
Oh! The last 20 years has gone so sooner,
The great college days, I started remembering,
Seems like only yesterday I finished engineering.

Seeing my class mates, after 20 years,
My eyes were filled with tears,
Everyone has changed a lot,
No one escaped nature's plot.

Guys who were smart and handsome,
Have become bald and buxom,
Girls who used to fill our dreams,
Almost brought out screams.

Saw the girl, whom once I thought as my life,
Oops! today she is somebody else's wife,
After years, talked to her for a little while,
Learned she is happy, that made me smile.

Entered our class' Mr. Romeo,
Who has played many a cameo?
We started teasing him together,
About what all he did to-get-her,

Project reviews to campus interviews,
Nicknames to last bench games,
Cultural rehearsals to love proposals,
Short term crushes to class room blushes.

Everything was fresh in our mind,
Wished life could rewind,
Laughed, played and rejoiced,
Once again we became girls and boys.

Chatting and laughing, we all were in elation,
Till the painful moment of separation,
It was time to part,
Returned with a heavy heart.

Today life is full of commitments,
And too many worries,
But those cherished moments,
Will live forever in our memories ...
This's nostalgic. I sense some 'kind of familiar rhythm' moving iniside these lines.Somehow the tune of summer of 69 of BAD fits well with this lyric.

Thanks to Mayank Saxena for this.

The Dangers of Browser Detect

Browser detection is something of a cat-and-mouse game, with manufacturers always finding new ways to convince scripts they’re IE or someone else and scripters finding cunning ways to reveal their true identity.

Browser detection doesn’t always work. This is the first, and clearest, danger. Browser vendors have been avoiding browser detects since 1994 by changing their navigator.userAgent value to what the browser detects script expect. Does the script expect “MSIE”? Then the user agent string contains “MSIE”, even though the browser is not in fact Internet Explorer.

Interesting stuff:
The Internet marketing, experience marketing & SEO have gathered highlevel attention due to the possibilities of clear-cut user experience tracking in recent times. This Neat app (crazyegg) helps you improve the design of a site by showing you where people are clicking and where they are not. The idea behind Heatmap simply amazing to me. It might revolutionalize the hot linking areas & user tracking techniques of internet campaign & internet marketing. It could be the hot-spot area specially for the co's solely survive on online ads.

Wireframing in firefox !

My tryst with wireframing softwares still continuing. Though interactivity related red flag is still up, I'm kinda content with the new beta release of Visio 2007 with upgraded features. Demonstration & workshop is the little bit nagging area when it comes to on-screen demo or conference calls presentation. Converting visio wireframes into XHTML was a good option, but due to the fact that most of the interaction elements get converted to images in visio; on the fly editing images is a tricky issue.

It seems, this nicety link should solve those bottlenecks of standard oriented browser prototyping using javascript & stylesheets. It's a neat little tool Frametastic 0.1 which allows a Firefox user to create simple wireframes inside the browser space. "Code" is downloadable & runs locally. Would be useful for table less layout generation as-well.

To beat morning blues, here's a cool humor, enjoy it:

Friendship between women:
A woman didn't come home one night. The next day she told her husband that she had slept over at a girlfriend's house. The man called his wife's 10 best friends. None of them knew anything about it.

Friendship between men:
A man didn't come home one night. The next day he told his wife that he had slept over at a buddy's house. The woman called her husband's 10 best friends. Eight of them confirmed that he had slept over, and two claimed that he was still there.
